1. How do I register?

On Line or In Person!

Summer Office Hours: Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

From September through June, the studio is open Monday through Thursdays from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m., Fridays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during Short Term Programs. For a more detailed schedule check our Dance Theme Calendar page.

We like to meet you and your child in person and show you around the studio before classes commence so we encourage you to come to the studio to register in person.

For full year programs there is an $20.00 per student or $25.00 per two member family. Three or more family members is $30.00 per family. Registration fee is payable at time of registration.

2. What sets Dance Theme Academy apart from other dance studios?

Like many dance schools, Dance Theme Academy has well-equipped dance studios, mirrors and quality teachers, but that’s where the similarities end and the extraordinary begins! 3. Do you have a dress code?

For short term programs, students can wear comfortable clothing (no jeans) and indoor footwear or dance shoes if they have them. We ask them to wear tighter fitting clothes that are easy to move in.

There is a dress code for full year programs which allows the teacher to properly correct a dancer’s alignment and technique enabling the student to take full advantage of the class.  The same foot wear ensures that they are wearing proper dance shoes and is effective for costuming purposes. 4. How many classes should my child take each week?

We encourage our students to take as many classes as they wish but that it is important to balance their schedule with homework, family and other activities. The more training a dancer takes, the faster they will develop in their dance abilities.

If you would like one jazz class a week, we offer that. If you would like an intensive dance training program that involves ballet, jazz and other disciplines we offer that as well.

5. Can I watch my child’s dance class?

Dance Theme has two scheduled viewing weeks a year. Other than that, parents are often invited to watch the last few minutes of class. Parents aren’t allowed in the dance studios every class as it can be a distraction for the students, and they have a much more productive class without an audience. 6. What are my payment options?

Payment options include pre-authorized automatic monthly Visa or Master Card, debit or post dated cheques for the 1st of the month.

7. What if my child does not want to continue classes after they start?

If for any reason you decide to discontinue your classes, you are not obligated to pay for the balance of the year. You can submit a Withdrawal From Class Form. In the case of a withdrawal, costume deposits will only be refunded prior to December 1st. You are required to contact the office and fill out a withdrawal form. Dance Theme requires 30 days’ notice to stop tuition billing and there are no withdrawals after April 1st.

8. Does Dance Theme offer a Recital for my child?

Yes! We will hold a year-end recital on June 8, 2019 at the Jubilee Auditorium for family and friends to view your child’s routines, and to celebrate the dancer’s hard work all year. Check out the Recital page as the date gets closer.

9. Does Dance Theme record the Recital?

Yes, Dance Theme has the Recital professionally recorded and is for sale.

10. Are there are any other shows throughout the year?

Mini Stars, Tutu's and Bowties, Early Childhood hip hop and a few other classes will perform in the Winter Magic Show on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Dow Centennial Theatre in Fort Saskatchewan.

11. Do all the dancers compete?

We encourage dancers to perform but realize that a heavy competition schedule is not for everyone. We have several program options:

  • Short Term Programs (Recreational)

  • Academy Program

  • Competitive Program

  • Company Program

12. How do the Short Term/Recreational Programs Run?

Fall, Winter and Spring sessions are offered that run nine weeks, depending on the session. Students are not required to perform on stage in this program. The last class of the session is a viewing class where the students showcase what they have learned. This route is a great way to introduce your child to dance without the pressure of a performance.

13. What is the Academy Program?

The Academy Program will see students learn technique and a routine. Dancers are placed into classes to meet the needs of the student and the parent in their dance training. Our Academy Program classes are for ages six years old and up. If your child is in the Academy Program they may be involved in Dance Jam (for 5 years old and up) which is a Festival held at the end of April/beginning of May and the year-end recital in June. The same routine is performed in Dance Jam and the year-end show which gives the students the opportunity to perform the routine twice. Students and parents are notified of the Festivals and performances in October.

14. What is the Competitive Program?

Students in this program take a minimum of one ballet class per week if they are taking a competitive jazz class. They will compete in two to three festivals or competitions as well as perform at our year-end show at the Jubilee Auditorium in June.

15. What is Company and how are students selected for Company?

Company is for students with a higher commitment level to dance and is on an audition basis.  There are several Company levels based on age and ability. Company students take full program R.A.D. ballet, stretch, technique and choreography classes. This program competes in several competitions per year and performs at year-end recital.

Although level of dance is important, equally important factors are potential, willingness to learn, commitment to classes and above all, a positive attitude! For further information, please contact the studio.

16. How old do you have to be to take dance classes?

Dance Theme Academy has two fantastic parented programs for little ones! Tiny Stars is for 3-10 month and Baby Stars program is for little stars as from 11 months to 3 years old! We have full year programs starting at the age of 3 years old.

17. Do you perform for the community?

Yes! Dance Theme Academy has performed at the Stars of Hope, Festival of Trees, St. Albert Children’s Festival and numerous Seniors Centres.

18. Are there adult classes?

Yes! We offer many types of adult classes in Tap and Hip Hop. Our oldest student is over 70 years old!

19. How much does it cost?

All our programs are very affordable while offering outstanding instruction. Short Term Programs are a one-time package fee.

For Full Year Programs the fees are based on an annual tuition which can be paid in monthly instalments for your convenience. Fees include GST. When calculating your dance fees, we total the number of weekly hours that your child and/or family is taking. There are capped rates for individual students as well as families.

Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m
